We require our teachers to be highly educated and to continue to upgrade their knowledge and skills through professional development.  Then we condemn them to a system that refuses to treat them as professionals or to tap into their knowledge and experience in designing and evaluating programs to educate our children.  Take a look at the ways that teachers in high-performing Finland participate in creating the educational programs in which they work.  We need to build partnerships with our classroom teachers, not treat them like lackeys.]]></description>
