Very informative. It is great to see CTECH reaching out to and developing career paths for the 30% of students who traditionally don't attend higher education. Although, CTECH is also higher education for the non college students. It provides the best possible training required to have a successful life immediately after high school plus providing a sound foundation to potentially complete a college degree(s) own their own businesses.
Dr. McCleary, former President of NMJC, at my first year as the full time AutoCAD and Area Vocational High School (pre-CTECH), stated his daughter had convinced him that he had been wrong thinking every student needs to go to college. Thankfully CTECH is preparing the 30% and future college graduates and future business owners.
I noticed that Architecture was one of the original disciplines that CTECH partners, the community and businesses saw a need. Having the right tools, along with the right people in place makes for very successful outcomes. Architecture, manufacturing, civil engineering, surveying all use the Computer Aided Drafting tool. AutoCAD being the industry standard. Although Hobbs Municipal schools have access to AutoCAD WEB, it is not sufficient to fully implement Architecture, Manufacturing, Surveying, etc.. The full version of AutoCAD will be required to provide the expertise needed in today's world. AutoCAD is simply a tool that should be a pre-requisite, as it is in college classes for Architecture and engineering. Learn the tool first, then concentrate on the individual field of study training. Don't try to teach both CAD and the Discipline, Architecture at the same time.
Thank you for CTECH. It has made a big difference already. CTECH's potential is unlimited. CAD will provide the pre-requisites for Architecture, Engineering, Design, etc.

I am pleased the school is using Kayla’s broad based knowledge and deep skills/abilities. I had the oportunity to work with her as a Professor in Anthropology. She is a high level scholar in Indigenous studies. Moreover she continues to help people improve their quality of life.

I wish that I had written it. You captired everything I have been thinking for the past couple of years, while helping my grandaughter through Algebra 1, geometry and now Algebra 2. The worst part is seeing the damage to their self-image and confidence just because they do not excel at that particular skil.

And by the way, the covid shift to computers has made it that much worse. No longer can a student get any credit for understanding how to approach the problem. It has to be worked out precisely, and in the right format, and without any typos when transferring the answer from paper to the computer. Otherwise it is 100% wrong!

Also, can't we teach the concepts adequately without making the problens insanely tricky? Are we really trying to teach all the kids, or just screening to identify the math geniuses.

Thank you for a well written and timely article.
